How do I compress programs and still run them when i want with out decompressing them?

I have a game that is 1.16gb and im trying to fit it on my 1gb flash drive is there a way to compress the files and play it with out decompressing. I use the compress feature in XP but it only compressed it to 1.15gb

  1. Jane is correct. You can not run anything without decompressing it. Even if you open a zip file that looks like a regular folder with a zipper on it, and double click a file to run it, you're still decompressing it using Windows built-in WinZip functionality. You just don't see it happening, they have made it transparent for ease-of-use.

    Also, you can't compress video files and still play them. You need the right CODEC to play a particular file.

    CODEC stands for COmpress/DECompress. It can be used to compress/convert a raw file to some other type, such as .avi, but you need the right codec in order to decompress it to watch.

    If you want to compress the game and put it on the flash drive just to transfer it somewhere else, you can try using 7-Zip:

    It's free, and most of the time when you use ULTRA compression it will compress smaller than a .rar file

    You will have to use either 7-zip on wherever you transfer it to in order to decompress it, or another program that will decompress a .7z file


  2. You don't. If something is compressed it needs to be decompressed at some point to run.
