Question:

How do I configure my DSL Modem for sonic.net?

They didn't give me any set up info other than to tell me to turn off PPPoE and turn on bridged. But now I have no internet light? I have zero confidence that tomorrow when my account is supposed to be automatically switched on that I'll be connected set up the way it is now.

I've already spoken to tech services a half dozen times. I just want to know what I'm in for tomorrow when I'll be forced to call again when it still doesn't turn on.

  1. It may be helpful to know what modem you have.  Also, did you have a green internet light before, or a red one?

Ok, thanks.  Your previous service used pppoe to authenticate.  Your new provider does not.  If you try to use pppoe it will probably fail.  Bridge the modem, make sure your NIC in the computer is set to obtain IP address automaticly and you should be fine.

You will not know anything until your line/dsl light goes solid.

If your internet light goes red after that, it means that you are still in pppoe and not bridged.  if it is blank, it is an issue on your ISP's equipment, or still a low signal.

Bridged is the very easiest way to get a connection, and that is why they are using it.
