Question:

How do I confront my boss?

I have been interning for a non-profit for three months. Though the pay is pitiful for someone about to get his Master's, I like working here and I was told (though I didn't ask for it) that the full-time job is mine - I'm just waiting for a letter of employment. But I also have a research assistant position (where the pay is also pitiful but where I make my own daytime hours, 20-30 hrs per week) waiting for me that I want to do and need to get into a good PhD program whenever I can get free from the internship . I wanted to ask my boss today if I could go to 20-30 hrs per week starting next week, but today I see that my check is 12 hours short.

Can I ask my boss (owner of the company) if I can move to part time (I would be the only part-timer ever; this would be a bold request in itself) and ask for my 12 hours that I wasn't paid at the same time or in the same day, or should I do one thing today and the other at another time?

  1. You just have to be confident. First you have to write an official request letter. If they want to consider you request they'll call you for talks

  2. Well first off, if your check is twelve hours short, that should be handle immediatly. Its your money and you worked for it so deal with it asap.

As for cutting your hours back, you can ask that at the same time you are dealing with missing hours. Ask your boss if he has a minute to have a small meeting with you cause you have a couple concerns.

You can ask your boss anything you want, you may not get it, but you can ask. But they do have to pay u for hours worked.
