How do I connect a 20/30 A locking plug & connector to 12 gauge cord?

Until we get an electrician here to put a better unit in we have to use a Bryant Tech-Spec 20/30 A Locking Plug & Connector with a Pro-Power 12 Gauge Polar/Solar 50 foot extension cord to run our above-ground swimming pool's pump. This is only temporary but we are having trouble with setting it up. The pump's plug fits into the one side of the connector but how do we put the extension cord into the other side of the connector?? The instructions say to "strip the conductors to gage" and then to "connect the wires - green to green s***w, white to silver s***w & black to brass s***w."

Am I to cut the clear covering off of the extension cord's one end to expose the wires and put the wires into the coordinated areas in the connector?

If anyone could walk me through this, I would be soooo grateful! Thank you!

  1. Do exactly what the directions say. Strip the surrounding insulation exposing the green black and white wires strip them back about a 1/4 inch and insert into the connectors make sure the screws are tight. If you don't understand this, call an electrician. Never use 220 Volts on a 110 volt circuit or piece of equipment it will BURN IT OUT.
