I have a broadband connection that I already use for receiving TV on 2 outlets, have a router on a 3rd networking 2 computers but I still have multiple connections in other rooms I can still use. If I buy another cable modem could I use another computer on one of these connections. I do not want to conect the 3rd computer through my existing router either wirelessly or hard wired.

  1. You can if you want to subscribe to another cable service or account. It would be easier to invest in another router and set up ACL's (access control list)  so that the computer that you don't want to access the other network does not access the other network and vice versa.

  2. I'm not sure what you're asking here.  If you're talking about cat 5 (networking) connections, then it would probably be possible to find your patch panel and disconnect one outlet from the rest of your network and connect it directly to a second modem.

If you're talking about cable TV outlets (coaxial cable....you s***w it in place) then it would probably work, but it might require re-doing your splitter to make sure that the second modem is getting a strong enough signal.

If you look at a cable TV splitter, you will notice that the better ones have the various outputs labeled as to signal strength.  the cable modem should always get the better output.

  3. No you cant because the broadband you get from your ISP only permits 1 ip address. Each modem = 1 IP address. The only way to have two modems setup is to lease 2 IP address's which will double your bill.

Why wouldn't you want to connect another computer to your current router? If you have broadband cable connection, you will be fine with bandwidth. If its something else, please specify so either I or someone else could provide you with a solution.
