How do I connect a Canon XL1 camera to my MacBook using firewire?

  1. i've come across this kind of problems with the xl1 when it was first released. the firewire implementation on the xl1 may result in the camera not being 'seen' over firewire by editing-software. though this was still in the days when a firewire port was a 3rd party add-on card anyway....no idea whether canon has ever bothered to update this though.

    Your MacBook has a firewire400 port - I think it is on the right side.

    Your XL1 has a firewire port on the right - just between the tape mechanism on the hand-strap. Refer to page 58 for the location.

    The cable you want is a 4-pin (camera) to 6-pin (computer) firewire/IEEE1394a/i.Link DV cable.
