Question:

How do I connect a PS3 Playstation 3 to my surround sound receiver??

I have been trying to connect my PS3 to a Harman Kardon surround sound receiver in multiple ways without success.

I connected an Optical audio cable from the PS3 (output) to the receiver (input). Then I connected the PS3 to the receiver via HDMI. Finally, using HDMI again I connected the receiver to the TV.

I get HD video, but not sound.

I also connected the receiver and PS3 via optical, and the PS3 and my TV via HDMI, with same results: video, but not audio.

What are the steps for this connection process?? What are the settings I have to change in the PS3 and the receiver menu??

Thank You.

  1. It sounds like you're connecting it correctly but you have to change the system settings in the PS3. Change the audio in the onscreen menu to output through the optical cable.

  2. you have the steps correct.

    ps3 >> optical cable >> receiver

    ps3 >>hdmi >> hdtv

double check input selection on receiver.  double check settings on ps3.
