  1. You don't supply enough information for me to answer your question. A list of your equipment with model numbers would help a great deal.

In short HDMI is the best connection at the moment followed by component, S-video, and then composite in that order. But you will likely be limited by the outputs some of your particular equipment is supplied with.

  2. ALL your devices get connected, and the TV set is actually an OUTPUT device FROM the output of your Home Theater.

So, connect your DVD, your Set top Box to the Video INPUTs on your HT amp...

Also, use the OPTICAL output or Digital Coax output from the DVD and STB units for Dolby Surround Sound Signals....

Once you have that done, connect your TV set using the HDMI output or Component output from the HT amp to deliver HD video to your TV set.....IT'S wise to use the same Video cables on your TV as you use on the STB/DVD players to ensure the signal is getting to the TV set

    .

Some amps do not convert all inputs to ONE output....some amps will do HDMI to HDMI,  and  Component to Component, but will not cross over Component to HDMI....be aware of that possibility...

Cables....HDMI is best, but Component will do for 15 feet or less

They have ALL your cables that you need.

  3. The easiest way to setup your entertainment system is to connect everything to your A/V Receiver (AVR)  This way you can use the AVR as a switch which makes it easy to go from watching a DVD to watching TV, or playing a game.  In this setup you'll connect our AVR's video out to your HDTV.  You will usually have to use one video cable for each type your devices use.  This usually will be HDMI and component video cables.

For the rest of your devices (DVD player, game console, set top box, etc.) you will need to connect them to your AVR with both video and audio.

    Some tips to remember:

    * Although HDMI carries both audio and video signals, your AVR cannot process the signals, so if you want your AVR to use the audio signal, you still need to use a separate audio cable.

    * For surround sound, you MUST use either an optical audio or digital coax cable.  There's no difference which one you use - they both do the same job.

    * For HD video you MUST use either a component video cable or HDMI cable.  TVs that support 1080p will usually require you to use a HDMI for that, while only allowing the component video input only do upto 1080i.
