Question:

How do I connect an older tv to an audio receiver?

My TV only has a coaxial cable in and A/V cable ins and no A/V outs. I have an older receiver that has A/V ins and outs. I also have a switch box that I am running a DVD recorder and Gamecube into and the receiver out of. Everything works except for the TV. I have sound through the receiver from the DVD and Cube. So, how do I get the sound from the TV to come through the receiver if there are no A/V out jacks? It was previously hooked up so that the TV sound came through the receiver. I thought I could rehook it up but am having no sucess now. The only change is that I removed a VCR, Nintendo and a Super Nintendo from the equation because I am trying to downsize my entertainment center.

  1. Wow, that is a tough one! I'm not sure I have enough information, but I will take a shot! I'm assuming you are running sound out of the receiver for all of your other things (DVD, Gamecube, etc). There really is no options with the TV because there are no outputs!

BUT, one idea I have is this. If your receiver has a coaxial in and out, you could run the coaxial into the receiver, then out from the receiver to the TV. OR, if the receiver has a coaxial in, and an A/V out, you could hook the TV up that way.

If you do not have a receiver that has a coaxial in, then your only option is to find a device (such as a receiver) that has the capability of a coaxial in. This is really your only option because the TV has inputs only and no outputs! Your VCR can act as a receiver because it has a tuner! So you could hook your VCR up again and use its coaxial in and A/V outs. Good luck!

  2. The easiest solution to this is to have a scart splitter to your tv http://www.comparestoreprices.co.uk/othe... and use the audio out to av amp, now if you have no output on your tv get a freeview box they have audio outs usually.
