  1. Hope its a cross over cable, if not then only a fast ethernet switch or a router can help you connect the 2 PCs.

  2. download VNC (program) for all 3 computers then install them, connect them (using cable, or, you dont have to sometimes) and choose "ip" of computer to connect to

  3. If you only want to connect the two of them a crossover cable will work.  give each computer an IP address.  The address doesn't matter, since only those two computers will see it - it just has to be legal.  <1-254>.<1-254>.<1-254>.<1-254> - iow, 10.10.10.1 and 10.10.10.11 will work just fine.  255.255.255.0 for the subnet mask.  10.10.10.1 for the DNS address, just so the computer doesn't complain.

If you want to connect both of them to the internet at the same time, use a router.  Connect your modem to the router and each computer to the router.  Turn the modem on.  When the lights stabilize, turn the router on.  When those lights stabilize turn the computers on.  you may have to wait 10 or 15 minutes until the computers can see each other, but they should be able to see the internet almost immediately.

  4. Do you have the right cable?  Is this a cable you purchased as part of a kit to allow you to connect two computers?  Is it a "Crossover" network cable?  Is it a regular network cable?  The problem is, there is no simple way to connect two PCs with just one cable.

For example.  If it is a crossover network cable, you have to plug it into the network ports of both computers, then manually set the IP addresses of each computer so they can see each other, then turn on file and printer sharing on both computers, then actually set a directory to be shared on each computer.

If it is a kit that you purchased (like a USB PC to PC kit) then it will come with the necessary software to make it work.

If you have a router, you can use regular network cable.  The computers will get their IP addresses from the router.  All you will have to do then is enable file and printer sharing, and share some directories.

You can attempt to use a parallel cable and two printer ports, and use the printer port sharing wizard, however more and more modern computers are not coming with printer ports.

You can attempt to use a serial cable, but even fewer computers are coming with serial ports.

So again, what kind of cable do you have?

  5. If both computers are network ready, then connect both network ports with a crossover network cable and your good to go.
