How do I connect my Vizio 42' Gallevia to my DVD home entertainment center? I want it to play through my speaker system.

I have tried the analog and the optical outputs but still get nothing. The only thing I know to try with the TV is to turn the speakers off. That does work. What am I doing wrong.

Please advise. Thanks for your help in advance.
