Question:

How do I connect my PC to the free wireless Internet I have at work?

I'm having a problem getting my computer to connect to the wireless Internet at work. It works on my laptop, but not the PC. Are there certain steps I can take to ensure that I am updating/installing everything correctly? Also, is it possible that it is not my computer, but the Internet Service Provider because the ISP keeps saying that it's not them, but our router. Who do I believe?!?!

Finally, does anyone know of any good websites that can answer these technical problems for FREE?

  1. u have to go to where it checks for wireless internet.

    find the server.

it may need a code, but im sure ur boss can give u it.

  2. Go to connect to a network, select yours, connect.(enter a key if needed) There is no problem with your ISP or Router since the laptop works fine. Ask the people at your work to fix it.

You can just connect the computer to the router via an ethernet wire.

  3. If it's working on your laptop, but not your PC, that immediately eliminates the ISP from the equation.  You know they are working by browsing from your laptop.  It also knocks out the router, really, since it's working for others (including you.)  The problem likely lies in your PC.

Most often, if your PC sees the router but gives you no internet, it's because you're missing a security code or have the wrong security setting (WEP, WEP-hex, ect.)  Double check with the manager to make sure there's not a sec. code you need.

If you get into your Network Settings on your PC, you can right-click the wireless network connector icon and hit the Restore button.  That helps if it's just basic problem.  It will disable it, re-enable it, and bounce your IP settings.  Beyond that, make sure you're set to recieve DHCP (looking in your TCP-IP properties from the Network Setting properties.) and not on manual.

Have faith.  Remember that the connection IS working (other people are on it including you) and there is probably a small detail array in your desktop.

You can find hundreds of free answer like these from any good community forum.  Also, if you search Yahoo! Answers instead of just posting the question, you can usually find a similar answer already presented.

    Good luck!
