How do I connect my Series 2 TiVo to a Wireless Network instead of to a telephone line?

I'm probably missing something simple, so feel free to mock me as long as you also try to help. I just got a wireless internet connection from Time Warner, and I thought I would be able to connect my TiVo to the router that Time Warner set up for me so that I could receive TiVo programming updates online instead of using my telephone. However, it's not working. I have a usb cable connecting the router to the TiVo, but no connection. Is it possible that the router Time Warner gave me is not compatible with the TiVo? If so, are there any fixes? It's not like I had a choice of routers. I have to use what Time Warner gave me, right?

  1. I recently connected my Series 2 Tivo to my wireless network using a wireless USB network adaptor made by and for Tivo.  I don't know why your setup isn't working, but I think adding the adaptor would be all you'd have to do.  I put a link for you below.

  2. Hi Kristin G,

The USB port on the TiVo is not an Ethernet port. Look on the back of your TiVo for the Ethernet port.

You can connect to your USB port with a device like this - http://store.tivocommunity.com/merchant....

To connect to the Ethernet port you need an Ethernet Cable to connect from your router to your TiVo. You can buy a cable anywhere computer parts are sold. Best Buy, Circuit City etc.

After you get everything hooked up unplug your modem and your router. Turn off your computer. Turn on TiVo and let it boot up. This may take several minutes.

Once TiVo has booted up plug in your modem, now your router and finally your computer.

Everything should be working, your computer should access the Internet and so should your TiVo.
