It's probably a dumb question, but I'm an idiot when it comes to this.

I'll try my best to explain my setup:

- Sony 40" 1080p LCD HDTV w/ 2 HDMI ports

- Xbox 360 Elite with HDMI

- Philips HTS3164 Home Theater w/ HDMI

I haven't bought the home theater yet, I just want to be sure I really can connect it, and how I do it before I buy it.

  1. If you haven't bought it (the Phillips) yet, then you shouldn't. I looked up the specs and though it does have HDMI, it's only an output (to the tv).The only input it has is the standard red/white A/V connection so there's no way to get 5.1 surround from either the tv or the 360. The only thing you'll hear in 5.1 are the dvd's you play on the Phillips itself. What you should do is look for one that has the HDMI output but also has either an HDMI input or at least a digital optical input.
