I'm pretty sure that I'll need to connect my computer's DVI to my tv's HDMI. I already bought that cable. However, in regards to sound, do I need another cable or will it work with my tv sound? Thanks!!!

  1. With regards to sound, yes you will need another cable. Although HDMI is video and audio connection, in this case it's only video 'cause the DVI out on your computer is just a video output.

If you have a regular run-of-the-mill sound card, there'll be a 3.5mm jack labeled "line out". Get a stereo 3.5mm to left/right rca cable and plug this "line out" into an input on your receiver.

Note that I said "receiver" above and not "TV" because of a slight problem that I foresee. Since the HDMI input on your TV is the one that you select to watch your computer, the TV assumes that it's supposed to get audio from the HDMI connection as well. Since we can't get the audio onto the HDMI cable 'cause it's coming from the sound card, you'll have to send the audio someplace else-- the best scenario being 5.1 surround receiver (or whatever kind of receiver you have handy).

    EDIT:

If your TV's HDMI input has an accompanying analog audio input (meaning that when it's tuned to the HDMI input it'll default to the analog ins if something's plugged in), then you don't need the receiver and can get the audio from the TV.
