I have a Hunter 5 min fan, I have connected the black wire from fan to black wire from ceiling, white wire from fan to white wire from ceiling and the black/white wire from fan to red wire from ceiling. I have black, white & red wires in the double box and black & white wire in the box. The white wires have been connected in the box and I get a hot signal from the black wire that is paired with the white wire. The switch has a red wire for light, blue wire for fan & black wire. How do I connect this?

  1. Black wire with hot signal to switch black wire. = voltage in

Red to red = power for light

blue wire to black wire from light=FAN POWER

white from light to white from box.

there is a ground wire too and it must be hooked up.

  2. The Black at the wall box goes to the 'line side of the two switches

in your switch unit. (Black wire)

The three wires going to the fan will be white - Neutral

The red and black will go to the light and fan connections in the ceiling,

(black & blue on your switch unit.

  3. It sounds like your ceiling box is wired correctly.  The switch is your only question.

In the switch box, the black from the black/white set in the box should go to the black on the switch.  This is your "hot" power.

Red wire from switch goes to the red wire in the box.  You connected the red wire in the ceiling to the black/white wire from the fan, which is the light fixture.

Blue wire from the switch goes to the black wire from the black/red/white set.  You connected the other end of this wire to the black on the fan, which is the fan motor connection.

  4. Let me start out by saying that the wire's coming out of the ceiling go like this, Black wire is alway the Hot wire & the White wire  is always the common ground wire  & the bare wire is the earth ground wire. & if there is a red wire coming out of the ceiling it is so you can turn the light off at more then one switch . I'm not sure what a hunter fan is ,But what ever you do don't hook the black (HOT) wire with the WHITE (GROUND) wire, if you did do that ,you might have to reset your breaker , It seems like you should have two RED wire coming out of the ceiling , if you do you need to hook them to the Black / White wire, That is so you can work the light from either switch.

  5. White is the neutral.  If I understand you correctly you have a double switching situation in the double gang box.  If you do not have a wiring schematic, you must determine the hot and the hot from the dimmer.  The normal wiring would be to have one hooked up to a straight switch, and the other to the dimmer, since you do not have a 3 way switch going on here, nor a two speed fan.  You must test each of the wires that go into the ceiling box (tickler thing).  The black or hot should go to one side of the dimmer and have a follow out of the red. (typical).  This must be clarified.
