It is a new computer and new tv so I assume it has all the needed ports. What would be my best option to set it up so that I can get the cartoons from my laptop to the tv for my 3 year old. I thank you....Becca thanks you!

  1. There are many possible ways, but often one or the other device is missing matching connectors.

Any of the following can be used if both the TV and PC have the same connector.

VGA, HDMI, DVI (DVI can connect to HDMI with an adapter), component cable, S cable and composite cable.

I've listed them in order of preference.

Unfortunately, PCs often don't have a good selection of video output connectors.

Laptops, in particular often limit their video output to an S connector, in addition to the VGA port.

S is only standard definition, so your desktop will not look good, but it will be fine for DVDs and cartoons.
