Question:

How do I connect my laptop to my HDTV?

My HDTV has HDMI, S-video, and Component RGB ports on it. My laptop has S-video and VGA ports on it. I have a sh** ton of movies on my laptop that I want to view on my HDTV. I have tried an S-video cable cuz that seems simplest. However the picture that appears looks like c**p. I know my movies aren't in HD so expect standard definition. But when I use the S-video cable the definition is worse than that. I can hardly read what is written on the screen. For instance the clock at the bottom appears as just blobs of pixelated junk. Someone help.

  1. Sounds like your stuck with S-video.

There is no direct way to connect what you have other than s-video.

The first answerer here stated a VGA to RGB cable, this will absolutely not work. It's not even close, those cables are made for use in the opposite direction.

Same goes for VGA to HDMI, as one is analog(vga) and one is digital(hdmi), no matter what cheap adapters you use its just not gonna work.

Now with that said, there are some devices out there that can convert one signal to another, and even bridge that analog digital gap. But they came at a price, in some cases it may be cheaper to buy a new TV. Be careful of the cheap ones as many times they only do half the work and your TV will need to be compatiable to do the rest, if it can.

Try this, VGA / Audio to HDMI other forums are talking about it : http://www.hdtvsupply.com/vgwiautohdfo.h...

  2. you can get a VGA to rgb cable off the Internet but that's the only way to do it other than s video. The reason why they look like c**p is because the movies you have on your computer are in standard defition and theres nothing you can do about that.
