How do I connect my old desk top computer to my laptop to download the files from the old to the new computer?

what equiptment do I need to physically connect them. then once the're connected, how do I download my old files from the old computer to my laptop?

I have a 2 ended USB cord. would that work to connect the 2 computers to download the files?

  1. the easiest way in the world ( if we are talking music , photos , doc files and the like ) is use a thumb drive and simply most the files to it then over to the laptop

    next way is to put the laptop and tower in the same workgroup share the folder and just bring them over the network

    both are very simple

    PS: ignore anyone who says connect a network cable between the two , because it WILL NOT WORK !!  

    you would need a cross over cable and then need to configure the tcpip settings of each card

    why !!! do people answer questions when they have no clue what they are talking about ?/

  3. Reach inside the HD and pull your files out.  Where are you, you little devils???

    OR

    Using the Windows CD, select the option to move old files and settings from old to new computer.  You can use a CD or a USB flash drive.

    Files, where are you??  Oh, whatever shall  I do?

  4. The easiest way would probably be connecting the two together

    with a network cable (ethernet cable) and saving all the files to the network.
