I just bought a Monte Carlo a week ago, and i took my subs with me from the other vehicle, so the question is how do I connect these subs to this factory amp? I had a 03 Jeep Grand Cherokee before the Monte, and the subs were connected to the factory amp on that vehicle, but my mistake was not to check how it was connected before I sold my jeep. d**n it, I think i read that i will need a line output converter (do I??). thanks in advance, and please guys don't be answering "take it to a professional" That's why I'm asking, because i don't wanna take it with a pro!"

  1. Your question is

    1)  where do you tap the signal from your factory amp to your aftermarket amp (for your subs)?

    or

    2)  Where do you find the factory subwoofer signal from the factory amp?

    or

    3)  how to hook up a sub directly to the factory amp?

Answer for 1)  You can go to the factory rear 6x9 speakers and use a hi/low converter and tap a left and right signal from the rear speakers, factory wires are Dark Blue/lightblue (+,-) and Brown/Yellow (+,-).

Answer for 2) If your car has a factory sub then :     Get to the speaker wires for the factory subwoofer and determine positive/negative, then use a hi/low.  If you are unsure of positive and negative, Cut the speaker wire, splice open a 1/4 of the speaker side of the wire, place a 9 volt or 12 volt battery (+,- ) on the speaker side.  If the woofer moves up or outward, the wires are correct (+,-).  If the wire is backwards, the speaker will move inward towards the magnet.

If your car has no factory sub, your amp will not have factory sub output.  The Jeep had factory sub in the front door, thats why it had a dedicated factory sub output.

Answer for 3)  Not a good idea.

  2. Do you have a separate power amp for the subs?  If not, hook the subs directly to the speaker cables of the factory unit (probably won't have much volume).  If you do, and the factory amp doesn't have line outputs (usually RCA jacks), you will need to buy a line output converter the hooks to the speaker cables on the factory unit.

  3. No factory amp in the world will ever have the adequate amount of juice to properly drive a sub without problems.

  4. You dont. The factory amp is not anywhere near powerful enough to power your aftermarket subs.

  5. that amp most likely isnt going to have a lot of juice to push no sub...go buy one and match the rms of the sub to the amp and hook that up
