How do I connect to a standard phone jack?

The phone wire on the wall has 6 conducts; their colors are one red, one white, and 4 transparent.

  1. Only 2 of the wires will have your dial tone on it. This is non-standard wire to this jack as far as color code goes. The best guess would be the red and white. If this is not it , try different combinations. If you have a dc voltmeter, it will be easier to find. Depending on your area, it will be 48-52 VDC.


  2. go outside to the interface..on the customers side(standard screwdriver needed)open and look at which colors are tied down to the connecting block..use these colors inside also..

    Her answer on dialing 911 is correct but only if you ground out the dialtone..meaning you use a wire connecting to a ground..no worries here..just connect  color to color and you should be fine..

  3. careful, doing this i would call a repair man out, cause i rewired my phone once and some how it dialed 911 next thing i know 2 cops r knocking at door. oops!! my chow pup chewed the wires.
