How do I connect to my Internet?

I just got a new Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop, but I need help connecting it to the internet. I use broadband, but everytime when I try connecting it, it says I need a username & password. I know I can connect to the internet without the username & password, but I don't know how. I can also use wireless, but then I don't know how. Can anyone help me connect my laptop to the internet using broadband?

Hilary....obviously shes not on the computer shes trying to conect to the internet with.... make sure u have the software installed with the hardware. usually comes with a self fix program

Just plug some cat5e network cable into the network card on the computer and then into the router.

Go in and have a fiddle in the NETWORK CONNECTION settings.

"dial up" is a thing of the past, your router should hold the connection.

Wow! I got the EXACT same laptop (I got a yellow one =D) last week and I had the EXACT same problem!

What has happened is that your wireless network in your house is secure (this means that nobody your neighbors be on it like neighbours etc should be able to get on it). So, when you buy a new laptop and try and connect to this network, the network asks you for a username and password so that it knows that you are anauthorizedd user and not some random out in the street.

The reason why you don't need to give a password on your existing PC's/laptops is because they are already accepted as being authorized users.

The username and password should of been given to you in the box that you received your modem in on a little card. I had lost mine, so I had to contact my Internet Service Provider (eg. Virgin, BT etc) and ask them to send me out a new username/password.
