How do I connect wirelessly with my PS3?

The trouble I'm having is that I've manage to successfully connect wirelessly once, but never again. When I did it that one time I downloaded a system update and then it wouldn't connect online since so I reset the playstation to factory settings. Now, although I can connect with an ethernet cable, when I go into internet settings and choose the easy mode I don't get a wireless option, I always get told to connect an ethernet cable, which isn't very practically with where the TV's set up compared to the router. Why is it not giving my the option to set up wirelessly? I know the router is working coz we have two laptops that can easily detect it.
