How do I construct buildings on roller coaster tycoon 2 game?

Question

I can only build the ground floor level, and can't build any higher than that to make other levels or place a roof on because everything just wants to go on the ground.

Also on roller coaster tycoon 1 how do you rent the land to extend a park. That's the land that's not up for sale.

Also is rct3 good? I'm thinking of buying a copy off Ebay, and this would have instructions.

I didn't get instructions with the others because I bought the games as a download off the internet.

Hold the shift key in order to get the wall to move up to (second level) also do this for roofs. Try smaller buildings first.

I bought RTC3 and didn't like it, I was so used to RTC 2. I never used RTC 3 again.
