My site has recently been dropped by Yahoo Search and I have absolutely no idea why.

You don't need to pay.  There's one paid product (Search Submit) that'll cause more frequent indexing, but it won't help your ranking one bit.

There can be several reasons for a site to seemingly drop.  Sometimes it's because of a quality problem on the site

And sometimes not.  If not, it might be a glitch or bug, try writing reportsearchspam ^at^ yahoo-inc.com  

That's yahoo-inc not yahoo.
