Question:

How do I contact my local BT exchange?!?

After numerous calls and complaints (not answered) to BT because they have changed my home phone number in error and say they can not change it back now so I have to "contact your local exchange". I thought the local exchange was just the actual box containing the wires etc to connect the phones and I have always been under the impression that any enquiries to BT go through BT call centres and then they deal with your enquiry!?!?!?

Anyway, I need this sorted out so how in the heck do I contact my local BT exchange?!?!?

Needless to say, I am in the UK...

  2. Your local BT exchange will not usually have any engineers in attendance these days. They will only visit if they are sent there to do a "task".   If there is anyone there they will not deal directly with customers anyway, unless yours is the fault that they are investigating.

    Fault reporting No= 0800 800 151,

    Customer services (complaints etc)=0800 800 150.

It sounds like you may possibly have been misadvised.

  3. Somebody has definitely been giving you bad advice.  As Bob says, many exchanges are unmanned and only visited for maintenance and when a specific job needs to be done, and orders for new lines, number changes, or anything else need to be booked through the service center anyway.

Call customer services on (0800) 800 150 (or from a BT line you can just dial 150) and try again.  If you can't get anywhere with the person who takes the call, ask to speak with a supervisor.
