First of all, Can I convert VHS tapes to my PC?

Wallmart will do it for $34.99 for 2 hours of VHS tape.

Is there a way for me to do it at home?

  1. If you have a 'breakout box' it's easy.  A breakout box is simply a cable that hooks into the videocard of your computer.  They usually come with video editing software or a t.v. card like I put on my daughter's computer (it was less that $99 at Best Buy).

Anyway, the cable has RCA input/output jacks that are easy to plug any v.c.r. or dvd player.  This is good for recording onto your hard drive then burning to your computer's dvd recorder.  If your dvd recorder is an external unit (like a vcr) you can easily hook your vhs player directly into it and record, just like you would a vhs tape.
