I have a HD JVC Everio and I'm trying to playback the video on my macbook. They don't seem to be compatible. I think I need to convert the files from the camera to something 'mac-friendly.' And in order to do that I need a program that works on a mac in the first place.. any ideas? Any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks!!

  1. try www.sqaured5.com for MPEG streamclip (free shareware).

Unless you have the Quicktime MPEG2 license activated you may be on plums.  This costs £15 and you buy the license key from the apple store form immediate unlocking.

I'm told that the similar Sony and Panasonic cameras work ok through iMovie (the latest version that comes with Leopard) you can then export it from IMovie to iDVD or as a DV quicktime movie for editing in something more professional.

I hate to be a bore, but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE state all relevant information, the type of video software you are using would have been helpful.

  2. I think all you need to do is to treat it as MPEG. Rename it from .MOD to .MPG or do whatever you have to do on a Mac to get make it think it is MPEG. If you don't have sound you'll need to find something that supports the AC3 codec.
