  1. I'm sorry, but I think the answer is that you don't.

  2. First measure the steerer tube to make sure it's long enough to fit into your bike and leave enough length sticking up to accomodate the stack height of your new headset and the stem/spacers that you want.   If it isn't, here's your chance to return it for another fork with a longer tube, or a threaded tube if you don't want to mess with converting to threadless.

Oh, and about that new headset.....you'll need to buy a new headset in addition to the new stem and spacers.   :o)

Take the bike to a shop to have them remove your old headset and install the new one of your choice (you can remove all of the major parts at home to save time and labor $).    It may be hard to find a 1" headset and stem.  The shop can order them for you, but you may find some better deals online.  Try http://www.cambriabike.com and http://www.nashbar.com ...they've both had 1" stuff from time to time.   Before you buy the stem, measure the clamp diameter of your old handlebars....if you can find a new stem with the right size you'll be fine.  Otherwise you'll need to get some new handlebars as well.   You should be able to use your old cables/housing if it's still in good condition, but you'll probably need new bar tape.

Hope this helps you out....good luck with the conversion!
