  1. you need to know density...  if the substance is water...  density = 1 g / ml

    so these are your equalities...

    1 metric ton = 1000 kg

    1 kg = 1000 g

    1 g = 1 ml  (for water)

    1000 ml = 1 L....

    here's the way you set this up...

    1 metric ton x (1000 kg / metric ton) x (1000 g / kg) x (1 ml / 1 g) x (1L / 1000 ml) = 1000 L
