how do I convert a music track from a CD to a mp3 or mp4 file for downloading as a ring tone.

You can get a really neat little piece of freeware to do this for you called 'wav to mp3 encoder'.  You simply import the wav file, then it conpresses it ans exports it as an MP3.  I think you can get it off of www.download.com, but try googeling for it!  Good luck!
