How do I convert my betamax to HD DVD?

I like to think of myself as a person that is pretty up to date when it comes to technology. And after years of holding out and waiting for a replacement to my beloved betamax format I have decided that it's time to upgrade to this new HD DVD that is so hot these days. But how do I copy my betamax tapes over to HD DVD? I'm really worried that if I don't do this soon that I will be stuck with a video format that is obsolete. I mean, how else can I watch Tron?

  1. Wow Yoohooro must have money to burn ("just" get another 8mb). For those of us on a budget, all you really have to do is hook a cable up from the  Betamax to your turntable. Then put a microphone near your speakers and hit play on the betamax and record on the dvd. Try to be quiet while the dvd records. Oh, if you don't have a microphone, you can use a small speaker but you'll have to crank up the volume.

  2. What you'll need to do is get a video card for your Commodore 64 and an extra 8 mb RAM stick to beef it up a bit. Then rejigger some wires together between your TV set, the computer, the Betamax and an Xbox. Buy some blank CD's and let 'er rip. In 2-3 days tops you will have a high res 1080i version of Tron complete with directors commentary and special features on HD-DVD.

  3. Actually there is a stand alone unit just for that.
