I REALLY want a pet rat but my parents think they are nasty and ugly. Can someone help explain that they make very good pets!? I offered to pay most of the expenses and take care of it but they still said no!!

  1. honestly, i was just like you. asking questions like this on yahoo answers and doing research. getting all excited because rats are supposedly the dogs of rodents. then i got two. what a difference. they aren't as smart as they say they are. unless you spend 5 hours a day, they rarely respond to their name. it took one so many months before it stopped pooping + peeing on me. sure, they may be fun to watch. but it's not worth it. ferrets dogs even turtles are better in my opinion i know this wont be best answer, but seriously think about it. IT'S NOT WORTH IT MAN. unless your a social-life-LESS loser who sits home for hours and trains your little rat friends

  2. don't u think hamsters r better than Rats if it doesnt matter with u i dont htink hamsters are ugly and they might accept buying u a hamster

  3. I have recently gotten pet mice & I am pretty sure that they are along the the same lines!? My dad didn't think it was a good idea becouse they are "NASTY AND UGLY" like your parents said! I ended up doing a lot of reserch & draging him to the pet store to show him how cool they are; also I got my mom and my little brother to think it was a good a idea and after a log time I got them! Just keep working on them a little at a time but don't pile it on or it will just make them MAD!!

Also I have a friend who has a rat she loves to death & hasn't had any of the problems the other people who answered talked about!!!

  4. My children never succeeded in having one,  I always showed them the exterminator contract I pay to keep things like this out of my home.  We have always had in door dogs. Rats, mice, snakes, bugs, ants, are not allowed not matter how much they want one.

  5. First of all you cannot get /a/ rat. That would be very unfair to the rat. They need to be kept in same s*x pairs or groups. Second of all, are you prepared to pay for vet bills too? I'd do a lot more research before even considering trying to convince your parents:

  6. I love rats. +)

Get some information about them from the Internet, a book, or any other reliable source, and prove your point.  If you have a shelter with some rats near you take your parents and show her how different domestic rats are from wild rats.
