How do I convince my mom to let me have to party I want?

This is for my sweet 16 and my mom wants me to have 10 people or less for my party. I was thinking 50 to 100 people. I am of course paying for my own party and have offered to find other chaperons, but she still won't budge. What do I do?

50-100 kids gets out of control very fast - and  you can count on a large number of them sneaking in liquor.  The vast majority will be total strangers to your mom, and virtual strangers to you....

When the liquor gets snuck in - and it will - you parents/mother will be legally liable for all actions of all the teens at the party, and on their way home.  

A year or so back a mother gave in and let her teen have party that sounds just like yours.....and guess what....some of the teens did sneak in liquor, and did drive home afterwards and did get into a wreck, with a couple of the kids attending the party dying as a result.  

The MOTHER of the teen who had the sweet 16 party is now sitting in prison, even though she did not serve liquor, and the liquor was snuck in.  There was even reasonable doubt that the mother even knew the liquor was snuck into the party due to the size of the party.  

The bottom line is - that is just too much risk to take with the laws being what they are.  It is hard enough being held responsible for your own kid, and 10 others....but is unimaginable pressure being held legally responsible for 50-100 teens.

Let it go.  Your mom has reasons for limiting the size of the party.  Nobody has 50-100 "close friends"....she knows this and so do you - thus her reason for not allowing a "boozer" on her property, which is exactly what she is going to end up with if she were to allow this to go down.

If you MUST have that many in order to feel truly 16 - have party in public place like a roller rink, Celebration Station or someplace similar. This way your guests are legally responsible for their own behavior, and your mom doesn't end up in prison for some other person's out of control teen.  

One thing you will find out when you have a party where no booze can be snuck in - is that about 5-10 friends will show up, and no more....and that is amazingly about the same size of party you could have had at home....
