How do I convince my parents to get a ferret?

Okay. So. I really really want a ferret - bottom line! I am 12 years old, and have cared for 2 cats for at least 9 years. They are healthy and get along great with me, so I think I've been responsible enough to care for them. We are in no financial trouble (in fact, we just got a new, bigger house because my dad got a huge raise). However, my mom doesn't want a ferret. When they were first married they had a ferret, a dog and a cat. They said the ferret was great. But they are concerned about our cats...I am confused. They had a ferret and a cat before, why not now?? Our cats are old and gentle and wouldn't try to hurt the ferret (which would be kept in a cage when not playing).

I AM responsible and would be willing to pay for most of the ferret and supplies. How can I convince them?

thanks.

  1. you could take your cats to your local pet store on a leash and see how they react to the ferrets, then your parents can see if your cats are good with them. also ferrets are awesome, i have two, one male and one female. they get along great and they are great pets. Best Wishes, Peace

  2. The ferret could attack your cats. Are you willing to lose your cats in order to have a ferret??? If your parents say no, then you should respect their decision...I know this is not what you wanted to hear! :-( Sorry...

  3. Ferrets are a lot different then cats. They are very expensive too. Are you will to pay a minimum of $400 just to get the ferret, its cage, food, food bowl, water bottle, and bedding? They also need toys, vitamins, carrier to go to the vet, rabies and distemper shot yearly, atleast 3 hours of exercise a day. You should also have a savings account of atleast $1,000 for emergencies. Many people end up spending $3,000 a year on ONE ferret. Also, it is best to get two ferrets so they don't become lonely. A good food costs about $20 for 8 pounds.

Your parents said no because they have been there. Good luck convincing them. I do not think you are ready to take them on at a young age. Wait until you are 15 or 16.
