Question:

How do I convince my parents to let me get a parakeet?

Hey I'm 15 and I really want a parakeet! I did all of my research and priced everything there is. I can pay all of its expenses on my own as well. I am extremely responsible as I take full care of my other pets which include two dogs, an anole, a bearded dragon, and a baby turtle! I know, I already have a lot of pets, but they are so well taken care of, what's the harm of giving another pet a wonderful life? I do everything my parents ask me to right away and help them out even when not asked! My mom said yes but it's my stepdad who put his foot down. How can I convince him?

  1. OMG! im ALMOST 15 and i have lots and lots of pets to.

    and honestly i have

    3 parakeets <3   (which i love!! )

    3 dogs

    12 cats

    1 ferret

    2 turtles

    8 beta fish.

and i love my animals... parakeets are not hard work at all ive had mine about 3 yrs.

    their not hard to clean.

their so fun to take care of.

    they talk to you back.

    just tell your stepdad.

if you buy them in a set theyll keep eachother company.

    (their social)

and keep them in ur bedroom  with ur door shut.

and psst. also give him a footrub and do the dishes for about a month. :D

i got away with that so many times!

    haha.

and BTW if you dont really believe me heres my myspace if you have one.

    i prove it on here

    GOOD LUCK!

  2. promise him you will do something back if he lets u have get one

  3. just remind them of how responsible you are, and have been in the past. Be persistent and start doing extra chores. Then print up all the research you've done, and subtly leave it somewhere they'll find it, (particularly you're step dad.) Oh, and don't stop bugging him until he lets you get one. Also, the thing about parakeets is you can't just get one. They get super lonely if they don't have a friend. You have to get one, then after you train him for about a month, you need to get another of the same gender. Good luck!!    :-)

  4. Persausive letter

  5. If you wrote down the facts as you just stated them...having the money for the expense of start up cost and on going care, the fact that you are so responsible with all your pets as well as taking the initiative to to help out without your parents asking is EXTREMELY impressive to me....most young people lack greatly in this category and don't take care of their pets so I am a little surprised that he is putting his foot down. I think the only thing you can do is argue your point with facts and hope he comes around sooner than later. The only other thing is to try to find a private breeder who actually takes the time to hand raise them all the ones from pet stores are wild...I know this to be fact through a lot of experience. I am going to send you a link that breeders advertise on you can search on the type of bird you want and the state you live in and/or search on parakeet breeders in your area to try to locate one that hand feeds/tames/socialize them young so you will have a sweet baby...you deserve a nice socialized bird because you are obviously an animal lover. See if your step dad would be willing to make some sort of deal with you for the bird, like extra chores he wants done or something. Get a male and spoil it rotten...the males if given lots of attention can learn to mimic speech very well!
