How do I convince my parents to let me get more lessons?

I take one 30 minute lesson a week and practice everyone day but Sunday. I really want to start taking more lessons so I can improve faster. I can do everything but an axel, and I'm working on a double salchow. I have asked them before and they said no, but I really want to have a chance at nationals before i turn 16 (I'm 11 at the moment)

  1. The issue may be money, which is something you do not have much control over at age 11, unless you want to start doing some odd jobs to earn more money, from family members or safe neighbors.

Maybe, if money is not an issue, you need to prove to them you are working as hard as you can and are advancing at a progressive rate, as your coach wishes of you.  If you practice as your coach wants you to, and are overall cooperative/willing, your parents will see you are truly serious about this sport and you want to do better and better.

    Good luck!

  2. It all really depends on why they said no in the first place.

If it is down to finances (and skating is an expensive sport, let's face it), then there isn't anything you can do about it.

However, if it is because they are worried about how it will fit around your school / other commitments, then you will need to be able to demonstrate to them that it won't conflict with things like schoolwork.  Just showing an awareness that your schoolwork has to come first and you can't let it slip can help parents feel a little more comfortable.  See if you can sit down with them for a calm discussion, and you should be able to understand each others point of view and try and sort something out.

    Good luck!

  3. I would suggest talking to your parents and ask them what you can do to take more lessons since you would like to.
