How do I convince people that you won't die in the army?

When ever I'm asked about my future career aspiration i say I want to join the defence force(Australia) as general entry. Imediantly they say things close to "Your going to die". Sometimes I ask people if they would join the army and they say "I don't want to die, I got a life ahead of me"

Could anyone help me build and arguement to convince people that KIA rates in todays wars are very small! barely anyone gets killed at all compared to 40-90 years ago......I can't put together an entire arguement so i need your help guys!

PS: if you are discouraging me from joining the army then please don't post here about that.

  1. You can't because you might. The same way that those that you are trying to convince may well die in some accident or other. Lifes a ***** and then you die, make the most of while you are here.

By the way, tell them to bugger off and hug a tree or something, join the army its a great life.

  2. Give  the name of your legendary genenal or the current head of defence

they usuallu should be over 50yrs.

Tell people that they are quite old and are still alive,&u want to becme like that.

this should shut them right up

  3. you will die in the army. GO NAVY.

  4. I don't think Australia is in a big war like it's somewhat communist counterparts that claim they are capitalists. There is always the possibility of dying in the army, but there is also a possibility of dying in a car wreck or being struck my meteorites. What you can do is find reliable statistics that can back up your data. You maybe deployed alot but I highly doubt you would get killed. Good luck in life!!!!!!!

  5. I think it's great that you want to help defend your country!  That being said, without sounding too pessimistic, you could be killed.  But you could die just being a civilian, whether it be from a car wreck or an incurable disease.  The next time you tell someone you're going to join the army and they tell you "You're going to die", just respond, "I'd rather die defending my country than just sitting back and doing nothing".  That should shut them up.  Good luck and God bless.

  6. wartime rule #1-people die. wartime rule #2-nothing can be done to change rule #1. wartime rule #3-no one knows who will be PERSONALLY impacted by rule #1

  7. I have the same thing here in the USA about joining the USMC. I usually just explain that deaths are extremely low most of the time. Just tell them you understand the risks(I hope you do) and that it generally won't happen with the training you receive.

  8. You can't because it's not true. It's like saying working in a mine is safe  :)

  9. haha, what?
