How do I copy files from my DVR to a DVD?

I have a DVR from rogers in Canada. I am always running out of hard drive and have to delete things i want to keep, I found out that there is a feature to copy files from the dvr hard drive to a dvd, how would i do this? Would i need a DVD recorder? If i do need a DVD recorder, would the following:

  1. Most video recorded by camera are mov or avi video, you may try avs video tools, it can help you convert and burn video to DVD, I always use it to backup my favorite movie, Here is a step by step guide about it

    If you can feed the output of your DVR into the input of a DVD recorder and you can make copies of the shows that are on the DVR.

    I looked at your link and I can't say for sure. I am 99% sure it will but the info wasn't very specific on inputs.

    Look at the output of your DVR and see if the cables are Red/White/Yellow. That is composite output. Then check the Best Buy recorder and see if it has the same color input. You have to be able to feed the DVR output into a input on the DVD recorder.
