How do I create a data disk to play in my 2008 Civic?

I have wasted two CD's (one DVD +R) making a data disk full of music. According to the manual I should be able to put folders of MP3's on a disk to play back on the stereo. What am I doing wrong?

use a normal 700 MB CD-R and when it asks for a format type click data.  Then drag all your music files into it and burn.  Some cd players dont play these though.  They only register with the normal 20 songs or enough to fill the 80 min max.  But it can be done.
