How do I create a flash AS3 preloader?

Question

I created a site that is in layers. It loads the main movie on layer 5. I wanted a preloader that would have an animated door above layer 5 that closes, unloads the current movie and preloads the next movie showing all the dynamic loading data. i have not seen this done anywhere before...can it be done?
