How do I create new events in iMovie 08?

You don't really create new events, they happen automatically.

Every time you import a video into iMovie, it becomes a new event.

Then you create a project by going File>New Project, then edit your new event or events by dragging the portions of the clips you want from the new event (lower) screen to the new project (upper) screen.

Once that's done your Share>Export Movie (or Share>Youtube).

After that you can import the movie into iDVD and burn it.
