  1. What you do is chain the amount that is desired then slip stitch at the beginning chain where the short yarn or thread tail is. You insert your hook into that chain then yarn over hook and pull through. It will form a circle and then you can add rounds as you go.

  2. u are probably foing the slip stitch wrong...pratice it a couple times and make sure your doing it right

  3. I think you should follow sue's advice.  Do the ch 5 and slip stitch to make a ring and then dc in the round and join with a slip stitch.  That's the easiest way I know how to make a round.  I've never tried to do the adjustable ring (what they were showing in the 2nd picture) but it seems more complicated.

  4. chain the 5 stitches and slip stitch then chain 3 and do your double crochets on the ring. Ok, this person did 12 double crochets in the ring. count the chain 3 as the first double crochet and do 11 more. Slip stitch to the top of the chain 3 then chain another 3 for the first double crochet in the next round and do 2 double crochets in each of the previous row.

Oh, dang, I forgot to ask if you are using USA instructions or English instructions. There is a difference in how the stitches are done.
