About 4 days ago I woke up with a very sore spot on my neck, like I had slept "crooked" on it. It is very difficult to turn my head to that side.Is this a knotted muscle and how do I cure it? It has happened to me before but usually goes away by itself much quicker.

  1. Go see the doctor or chiropractor.

  2. I had one of these a few months ago, and let me tell ya; it's no fun.

My doctor showed me how to massages to use on it, and you or someone else can try using some.

Use a heating pad on it, while you're watching TV or laying down, etc.

Motrin also helps for the pain...if the pain continues to last for a few more days, talk to your doctor or chiropractor.

    Good luck!

  3. Yes, it will go away by itself.  However, if you can get someone to "gently" message it, it will speed up the recovery.

  4. I have the same problem and I know how painful it can be.  I recommend a massage.  I good massage therapist will know how hard they need to go.  Yes, it may hurt and be sore for a couple of days.

A chiropractor is a good option too.  In the meanwhile try applying heat to soften the knot.  I use a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel. Heating pads don't seem to get hot enough.  You can take Ibuprofen for it.

Exercising is a good way to prevent it from happening again.  Also look at what your are doing which may be aggravating the situation.  In my case, I have bad posture when reading, or watching tv. I tend to favor one side of my body, putting pressure on the neck.

    Good luck to you.

  5. You could go someplace to get a massage. I had that same problem and when I got a massage it got rid of the knot right away. Chiropractors can help with that type of problem too. Remember tho, right after treatment its a good idea to ice the area because when getting a sore area worked on some muscle damage may occur as part of the treatment process to get the knot undone. This is totally normal tho.

    Good Luck!!
