How do I cut an overhanging apple tree?

Question

My neighbours apple tree over hangs into the garden and I asked them if it was okay to cut it and they said yes. I asked if they wanted to cut it in case I messed it up but he just said i could. Will I kill the treen by cutting off branches? They're not big thick branches, they are a bit thick but not trunky or anything! Should I cut the branches down to a certain part or what? I have absolutely no idea - HELP!

You say it is an Apple tree, Does it bar Apples??. If it does? why would

you cut it off and you could pick the apples & eat do what ever you want to do with it?. If it does not bare fruits then you will have a shade tree to sit under in the summer, so what ever you do the tree is an asset to your Grands, so I would let the bloody tree remain my dear.

NO it won't be killed if you just cut the Lems but if you HAVE to cut it and I do not think you have to, but if you have to cut it I would tell you to get some one who knows what to do & how to cut it.BUT, leave the tree, pick the apples & eat them & relax under the tree @ summer time OK my dear?.

Cut back as far as you like it's overhanging your property.

I have a apple tree I cut it every year the more I cut it the more apples I get just cut it were you like you won,t kill it.

You won't kill it. Just saw off as much as you can. In fact I would ask the neighbour to come around and do it for you.

If you want apples next year cut in autumn and winter.if not bothered than cut now,it doesn't matter where you cut the branches,just make a clean cut.the tree will not die,no matter how you cut.So just cut where ever they are protruding and don't worry it's tough as old boots.

You may, legally, cut anything that is overhanging the boundary.

You will find it hard to damage a tree if you make sure the cuts are clean. Get the right kit or a professional.
