I have removed all eggs and she has stopped coming out of her nest, even to eat. Any suggestions?

  1. You don't have to get any thing too expensive. Try putting a ping pong ball in the nest, or any other small white ball (base ball, dog toy, or fake Easter egg) You could also try blocking her off from the nest for a few days.

  2. I would suggest moving her to a new location.  If you leave her in the same area and give her some fake eggs, she will stay on the nest until those eggs hatch - and that would be the twelfth of never.  She needs to have a new outlook on life.  I have been able to move a broody hen to a neighbor's chicken pen, in fact, we have traded hens and both hens stopped brooding.

  3. first of all

what do you want to do?

if you want her to stop this is what you can do.

just simply take her off the nest and take away all the eggs and shut her in a pen/run for the day

    (with shelter of course)

and if you have a young rooster put him in with her. .

he will keep going after her and it will take her mind off the eggs

you will have to do this for a few days.

DO NOT DUNK HER IN WATER FOR HEAVENS SAKE.

    BUT

if you want her  to hatch her eggs

make sure the eggs she is hatching are fertile and just leave here be. .  make sure she eats, drinks and defecates at least once a day

and if you play your cards right

in  around 21-23 days you will have baby chicks.

  4. assuming you want her to stop setting, I'd suggest dunking her in a bucket of water every few days. Not completly dunk of course, don't want to drown her. My sister and I used to do this, chickens seem to hate water, and that would help break them of it.

  5. you can purchase fake eggs at reputable vet offices or pet stores.
