Question:

How do I deal with a credit card company who's poor customer services is damaging my credit score?

My card company gave me a 0% rate offer that I took advantage of. I spoke to a rep who confirmed the offer and told me to use any checks they previously supplied to transfer a balance from another card.

So after doing that, I later discovered that my interest rate was never set to 0%. Instead it went up to 27.99%. When I spoke to several supervisors and explained what happened they refused to co-operate. They said the check I used was for an expired offer. They explained the offer expired April 2008 and I transferred the money in May 2008.

They all stated that there were no existing offers after April. They made me feel like I was delusional and I made up a story of a second offer's existance.

Today I found the promo that proved I was right all along. The card company all of a sudden realized this offer did exist and still refused to revert my limit back from a 50% cut. And refuse to give me the 0% interest rate; plus they mistakenly closed my account..What can I do?

  1. There are plenty of good companies out there with 0% and balance transfer offers for people with good credit which it sounds like you do.  So I would just pick another offer or company and transfer the balance and be done with them.  The sooner you do it the less money it costs you with the high interest rate.

  2. Pay off the account.  With that kind of poor record keeping and bad customer service, you don't want to do business with them anyway.
