How do I deal with loss of motivation?

How do you deal with loss of motivation? When I wake up in the morning it's hard to leave the house and I'd rather just sleep all day. When school starts I'll have a very regimented schedule and it will leave no time to sleep in or just laze around. I'm worried I'll fall behind in my schoolwork and do badly at work because of this loss of motivation. I took a summer class this year and did badly due to my lack of caring about my grade, even though the class was expensive, and recently quit a job just because I couldn't handle going in. I just really don't want to do anything anymore. I did some short research on the internet and was advised to take drugs but I barely have health insurance and would rather not anyway, any non-prescription ways to conquer this?

  1. i so know what you mean! Im looking into whether i have ADD atm because i have a lot of the symptoms for that. I have never really felt that motivated to do study and work; I really want to though! I get surges of motivation that last a few minutes to an hour but it just goes away when i start doing it(, i just cant stay on task). Maybe it is related to lack of concentration and ADD(not necessarily the Hyperactive version)?

Do the test on this site to see if you may have it and tell me the results!

    Cheers.

You should probably get an appointment with a psychiatrist and find out if you have ADD. Most likeley the not hyperactive otherwise it would have been picked up earlier in life. Im in a similar situation to you(i got a 64 in the test and i was being kind with myself on a few of the answers. In Australia you should see a GP first i have been told today otherwise u dont get the benefits of medicare and maybe not even private health insurance(im not sure). But you should ring up a helpline or psychiatrist and ask what the best process is.

I too am not sure if i want to get medicated in the likely case im diagnosed with it.. But atm it is definitely a big consideration as im 21 years old and im progressively becoming more and more of a mess. Intelligence will only get u so far having ADD; i got through highschool fine through deadline pressure, parental pressure and probably a bit of luck.. At uni when u only have ureself to keep u focused it can be a real stretch especially when your doing things that are boring, require a lot of memory work and anything procedural.

Please contact me and keep me updated on how your going. Do you have msn? Please email it to me Suburbanknight@ymail.com ..  That goes to anyone else who has similar problems. Hopefully we can help each other out, its kinda getting depressing!

  2. I have the same thing you have except I still have good grades and I'm a constant daydreamer. Since you got a 71 on that ADD test, you might want to check a doctor to see if you really do have ADD. You probably have ADD predominately inattentive because it also includes SCT (Sluggish cognitive tempo) since symptoms of that include laziness, drowsiness, and daydreaming.

By the way, do you also have a low self-esteem, since that can also be a sign of ADD for the more intelligent inattentive person

  3. you got many friends? most ppl's lives lack motivation when they're not enjoying what they do. I know it's hard to enjoy school, so it makes it heaps easier if you hav a good social life. friends around you who you can hang out with, hav fun with
