How do I deal with my needy, demanding friend?

I have a friend who is really nice, but also really annoying at times. We are both in our 20's.

If he calls and I am busy, he will leave me a voice message and then call agin like 15 minutes later and leave me another one. Then he might call a thrid time if I don't call back.

If I don't answer his text messages right away b/c I'm busy or don't have my phone with me, he will send me like 2 or 3 more saying something like, "I guess I'm not good enough for you. I'll quit bothering you if that's what you want."

If he invites me to do something late at night or last minute and I don't want to or am too tired or busy he accuses me of being a bad friend. I am seriously considering not being his friend any more b/c his neediness is wearing me out. He is actually starting to make me feel like a really bad person. I don't THINK I treat him badly, but I also don't feel like I can give him all the attention he needs sometimes. We are friends (just friends, nothing more), but that doesn't mean we need to talk and hang out every single day. Am I wrong? Should I end the friendship?

  1. Wow, whatever you do, do not choose to feel like a bad person.  You have to tell him straight out just like you wrote here.  You sound very reasonable. Set your boundaries and let him choose whether he can deal with them or not.  It's on him.

You better not go through life not expressing your true self & feelings bcause it's not what the other person wants to hear,  U can't hurt them.  It's their choice to feel whatever.  no one can hurt you unless u choose to b hurt.

  2. I know what you mean I got same problem, but he stop eventually to do it because I told him that he was a special friend but I couldn't put all the attention in him only because I got another friends that I also like to expend time with and got two kids that need me. And he understood I hope that your friend understand. And if he/she is really your friend he/she would understand (maybe feel a little bit hurt but it will pass)
