I went to the emergency room twice for the 2nd time this year with the same symptoms, except this time they called it panic attack. It usually starts with my heart racing from 122-147 BPM, I can't breath, my hands shake, my limbs go numb, and I can't get control to make it go away. It feels like I am going to die. How can I handle these when they happen?

  1. They are extremely hard to handle. I have an anxiety disorder but I don't get attacks very often as I try to stear my thoughts away. I suggest taking deep breaths and focus on them. Take a deep breath and count to 1 then breathe out and count to 1, take another deep breath and count to 2 and do the same while breathing out.. Do this until you make it til 10 and hopefully by then your attack will have passed and you have focused on something else.. I get all of those symptoms too and they are very stressful and scary but just now that you aren't going to die heres a website that really helped me with my anxiety fears someone gave it to my on a victims of anxiety webpage..   http://www.anxietynetwork.com/pdfear.htm...     Good luck I wish you all the best!

If you are one of the three million Americans who have had multiple panic attacks, you should know that there are ways to control panic attack symptoms.  In order to control panic attack symptoms, you need to help prevent them in the first place.  Another option that some sufferers choose to help control panic attack symptoms is to actually face the fears.  Knowing that there are treatments out there though should help you can beat those fears and control panic attack symptoms.  In order to control panic attacks you will need to become aware of the way you breathe enough so you can begin to switch from chest breathing to diaphragmatic breathing.  The best way to control panic attack is to stop excessive worrying.

Cognitive therapy exercises such as breathing techniques and visualization methods are used by psychologists to try and break the cycle of anxious thoughts.  Deep breathing is a very important and crucial part of lowering your stress level and reducing chances of panic attacks.

  4. I used to suffer from panic attacks, too, until I took cognitive behavioural therapy.  The attacks do not stop until you can stop giving them attention.  In short, I learned to stop reacting to the symptoms.  When you run off to the emergency room, you're freaking yourself out when there's really nothing wrong with you.  I know it's hard to believe, but that's how I stopped mine after almost 10 years.
